Today’s Jazz is Smooth: I listen to music while I write, according to the scene, my mood, the weather, the music is a constant sound that I can tune in or tune out. Lately, everything I listen to is jazz or jazz-influenced (I mean, seriously:), my first two historical fiction novels are set during the Jazz Age — the 1920s — so, that makes sense, right?
This Saturday, however, I’m into smooth jazz, which debuted, if you will, in the mid-1970s, but didn’t earn its moniker until later (early 1980s). Dominated by the sound of saxophones and guitars, the music features artists such as George Benson, Kenny G., and Sade, who come to mind right away. But there are SO many.
Do you listen to music while you write? (I know many people don’t, but I need to sound to fill the space around me:).
If you listen, do you enjoy smooth jazz?
