Recently, a fellow author/critique partner, general pal, asked me to give her some input on her latest book cover. She is self-publishing and knows the importance of a kick-butt cover, and has pulled in some of her colleagues to assist her in making this critical decision. No names here, but lately, I’ve been asked by a couple of fellow authors for input on covers. It might be because of my keen eye 🙂 or that for more than 20 years I have been in marketing and worked with graphic designers, stage designers, and videographers and photographers.
Of course that doesn’t mean I’m an expert on book covers. No way. What makes a book cover special is a unique art that I won’t pretend to know inside and out. What 20+ years in marketing gives me is the license (in my own mind) to share my opinion without a filter:)…
So today, because I haven’t updated my blog in eons, I went on a book cover search to find a hand full of covers I wanted to share here because they’d grabbed my attention. Â I’ve only read one of the books below Sugar Jamison’s first in her A Perfect Fit series (loved it!). Of course doing the research for this post I will now add all of the books below to my must-read list.
In the featured spot above is the cover of Robin Covington’s new book, Sex & the Single Vamp, a cover I loved from the first time I saw it. One of the books below – has a title that grabbed me – Snow White Must Die – I bought it the other day at Barnes and Noble (and yes, my appreciation of that title is a bit scary, but its an international best seller, so there!).
Funny, I started this as an exercise to gather something to post, but there is a pattern here. I like dark and sultry – or playful and snappy. This might be an exercise you want to try…(or have already tried:)…hey, I needed to blog today!
