A quick comment about the creepy winter weather we’re having in DC – it’s 60 degrees and the sun is too shiny in the sky, and I want to play hooky from so many things so I can write more, but alas, I just decided to give up sleep for the mouth of March – hooray for me!

FB ‘brand page’ going timeline!

In my morning Internet search for ways to get work done better, faster, and yesterday, I found a super useful website on  social media geared for nonprofit organizations. In my world, authors are businesses, too, and what works for businesses will work for you! So, guess what’s around the bend for those authors who have a ‘brand page’. Yep! Timeline is a coming.

Your ‘brand page’ is that author page that folks can ‘like’ so you don’t have to burden them (or be burdened) with non-relevant information – as it pertains to you the author, and them, your readers and fans, and the publishing industry in general. You get to stick to the point – provide insights into you – the author , and stay in touch with the multitude of folks who are your fans, while promoting your brand (your new books, appearances, travels, much loved characters, etc.)!

Okay, we know this already, but Beth Kanter offers some deeper insights, presented in a very cool, easy to read and understand blog post. So go, check her out, and don’t get turned off by the nonprofit speak. Business is Business, and authors have marketing rights, too!

The article provides a how-to on setting up the timeline for your brand page so you dictate the look and feel before everything switches over, whether you like it or not. So before it goes LIVE, check out a few tips and ways to test what you what to do before it’s done for you.
